About Us

IELC is an international professional learning community that explores foundational questions of educational philosophy, carries out practical inquiries into Islamic pedagogies, and discusses questions around curriculum in Muslim contexts. Together we think about Islamic heritage in the teaching of Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Languages. 

We carry out this work mainly through dialogic and reflective professional development courses.

IELC has emerged from research projects on Islamic educational thought and classroom practice including surveys of the current educational landscape and available curricula. We aim to make Islamic scholarship and contemporary educational research accessible to educators and school leaders.

IELC explores challenging questions about what contemporary education for Muslim children and young people should look like. It is a dialogic community of learning and practice where researchers can openly discuss their specific contexts and problems, in a spirit of mutual respect. Such dialogue is essential to building educational practices that support educators in meeting the needs of young Muslims today and broadening their educational experiences.

We welcome anyone working in the education of Muslim children aged 3-18 years.
